LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA:  As 'LOTR: The Rings of Power' Season 2 gears up for its highly-anticipated release, which is set to premiere on Thursday, August 29, Prime Video has confirmed a thrilling addition to the cast of characters, a classic Lord of the Rings monster.

Teased at San Diego Comic-Con, this creature's arrival hints at a darker storyline for Season 2. The monster's return aligns with Sauron's plan to spread evil, bringing back familiar faces and new terrors. This move not only has sparked excitement among fans but also nods to Tolkien's roots, promising a chilling ride for fans in the upcoming season.

Will Shelob's return in 'LOTR: The Rings of Power' Season 2?

The infamous spider, Shelob, from J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Lord of the Rings', is set to make a chilling appearance in 'The Rings of Power' Season 2. This fearsome creature has been a staple of fantasy horror, inspiring many writers to incorporate arachnids into their stories.

Shelob's ability to evoke a sense of helplessness with her lightning-fast movements makes her the perfect monster. Her debut in Peter Jackson's 'The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King' left a lasting impact on audiences and now, we can't wait to see her in 'LOTR: The Rings of Power' Season 2.

As seen in the trailer, Shelob will be preying on heroes in 'The Rings of Power' Season 2, bringing her signature fear factor to the show.

Why Shelob's return in 'LOTR: The Rings of Power' Season 2 will be different from her 'LOTR' days

In 'The Rings of Power', Shelob is centuries younger than in 'The Lord of the Rings' movies and books. This means she's smaller, but still packs a punch - as seen in the new trailer, she's capable of taking on Isildur.

Unlike Peter Jackson's movies, which focused on action and adventure with horror elements, 'The Rings of Power' Season 2 embraces its horror and psychological thrills. Shelob is expected to be a highlight of this darker direction.

With her appearance, 'LOTR: The Rings of Power' Season 2 promises to deliver adrenaline-fueled scares, and fans are eager to see how she'll be portrayed.

How old is Shelob in 'LOTR: The Rings of Power' Season 2?

In 'The Rings of Power', Shelob is an ancient beast, thousands of years old, and the daughter of Ungoliant, an even older monster. Although smaller and younger than the Shelob we see in 'The Lord of the Rings', she's still a mysterious and primeval force to be reckoned with.

'The Silmarillion' reveals Shelob's origins, telling the story of her mother Ungoliant, who assisted Morgoth in his cruel acts against Arda and its inhabitants. Shelob was born during Ungoliant's time in Middle-earth, making her roughly 6,000 to 7,000 years old.

The exact timing of Ungoliant's arrival and death is uncertain, but 'The Silmarillion' suggests she may have died towards the end of the First Age. This uncertainty explains the range of Shelob's possible age.

The trailer for 'The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power' shows a formidable Shelob, already halfway to the villain we know from the books and movies. Although Isildur's future in the show is secure, Shelob's presence will still send chills down viewers' spines.
