In what comes as a welcome piece of news, 'Loki', the upcoming mini-series on Disney+ is looking to bring in Sera as one of the major characters in the series.

The Illuminerdi reported that the studios were planning on introducing the famed Anchorite in the Tom Hiddleston-starrer mini-series. As reported by Comicbook, if this report is true, then we might be looking at Marvel Cinematic Universe's first transgender character.

A bit of comic history says Sera was a rare, wingless male 'Angels of Heven' who was kept inside a temple by the Hierophants to pray for the dead angels who had no soul. However, the character was identified as female.

In their previous interviews, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige and the Russo Brothers have stated that a queer hero will make an appearance in the upcoming movies.

After hearing this news most fans hoped that this would happen in 'Eternals'. This news, if confirmed, pretty much implies that the MCU is taking baby steps for representation. 'Avengers: Endgame' started off by having one of the directors, Joe Russo, appear in an uncredited role as a gay man. Again, small steps, but it is a message of what is to come.

Russo told Deadline that the representation was really important. "We felt it was important that one of us play him, to ensure the integrity and show it is so important to the filmmakers that one of us is representing that. It is a perfect time because one of the things that are compelling about the Marvel Universe moving forward is its focus on diversity."

All this goes on to point out that Marvel is taking its LGBTQ+ representation quite seriously. How they manage to present the character is unclear, but for now, it is a major step.

'Loki' is slated to release next spring on Disney+.
