Broadway legends pop up

On the way to stage for the opening number of 'Schmigadoon!' its star Alex Brightman stopped on the aisle to ask Broadway legend Bernadette Peters for directions.

Former host and Tony Award nominee Ariana DeBose also stopped by to offer Pink some advice. She said to give out encouragement and "hit them with a high note of your choosing," and also said if she needs to stall, remind the audience that Jonathan Groff spits a lot and Nathan Lane is secretly 6'7".

During a tribute to 30 years on Broadway for 'Chicago," Queen Latifah, who earned an Academy Award nomination for her role as Matron Mama Morton in the film adaptation, joined host Pink, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Alex Newell, Adrienne Warren, Julianne Hough, Whitney Leavitt, Dylan Mulvaney and more for a tribute performance from the musical.

Leslie Odom Jr. sang a hauntingly beautiful 'Without You' from 'Rent' during the show's In Memorium segment.

Pink Kicks Off Tony Awards 2026

Pink was Peter Pan. She hovered above the Radio City Music Hall stage as the Tony Awards opening number "Began," but multiple-time event host Neil Patrick Harris stepped onstage almost immediately, to raucous applause, urging her to be herself. The pop singer kicked off the 79th annual Tony Awards, held Sunday, June 7, to a full house of performers, creatives and everyone who keeps Broadway running. Pink took on the criticism of some head on, saying she wanted to be accepted for her love of Broadway despite never having been in a show. By the end of the opening number, fans on the internet were already dream-casting her in her first show.
