Months of "For Your Consideration" campaigns, screenings, billboards, star-studded panels and awards-season buzz have all led to this moment.
The Television Academy is revealing this year's nominees on Wednesday morning, with Emmy winners Liza Colón-Zayas (The Bear) and Jeff Hiller (Somebody Somewhere) joining Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego to announce the contenders during a live presentation from the Wolf Theatre at the Academy's Saban Media Center. While most nominations are revealed during the main ceremony, the Outstanding Variety Series and Outstanding Reality Competition Program categories were announced earlier on NBC's Today.
The nominations mark the official start of this year's Emmy race, with recognition spanning television's biggest dramas, comedies, limited series, reality programs and variety shows. NBC and Peacock will broadcast the 2026 Emmy Awards live from the Peacock Theatre at L.A. Live on Monday, Sept. 14, with Mariska Hargitay hosting the ceremony. The Law & Order: SVU star becomes the first woman to host the Emmys in 15 years.
This year's nominations arrive alongside several notable changes from the Television Academy. Talk series and scripted variety have been combined once again into a single Outstanding Variety Series category, with nominees from both formats determined by the volume of submissions received. The category has also been designated an "area award," meaning multiple nominees could ultimately receive Emmy statuettes if they secure the required level of support from Academy voters.
Additional rule updates introduced this year include renaming the TV movie category to Outstanding Movie, updated guidance surrounding artificial intelligence, revisions to several craft categories, and expanded eligibility rules covering casting, costumes, lighting, camera, and technical arts.
Competition remains fierce despite a decline in submissions. The Academy received 555 program entries across 14 program categories this year, down from 600 in 2025. Those submissions included 110 drama series, 71 comedies, 31 limited or anthology series, 34 movies, 18 variety series and 45 reality competition programs.
As always, nomination morning is expected to deliver its share of surprises alongside the anticipated frontrunners. Some contenders enter the day with strong momentum, while others were ruled out before voting concluded because of eligibility or submission issues.
We'll be updating this page throughout the morning as nominees're announced, along with the biggest surprises, notable snubs, standout moments, and key takeaways from one of television's biggest days. Follow along for the complete list of nominees as the 2026 Emmy race officially gets underway.
