Senator Lindsey Graham said young women "have a place in America" if they "are against abortion." The Republican Senator for South Carolina praised Judge Amy Coney Barrett as a role model while speaking at a campaign event in Conway, South Carolina.

“You know what I like about Judge Barrett? She's got everything,” the senator said. “She's not just wicked smart, she's incredibly good. She embraces her faith. I want every young woman to know there's a place for you in America if you are pro-life, if you embrace your religion, and you follow traditional family structure. That you can go anywhere, young lady,” he added.

Graham is campaigning in an extremely competitive election race against Democratic challenger Jaime Harrison, the first Black chair of the party in the state. During a debate against Harrison, the senator was furiously criticized for saying that young Black people and immigrants can “go anywhere” in South Carolina, adding “you just need to be conservative, not liberal”.

As soon as the comments came in light, people started reacting to it, as White House reporter Chris Johnson tweeted, "Sen. Lindsey Graham says Amy Coney Barrett shows young women can go anywhere in America "if you are pro-life, if you embrace your religion and you follow traditional family structure." The term "traditional family structure" has been used to exclude and denigrate LGBTQ families." While another one slammed Graham and wrote, "This is really cute coming from a life long single man who is rumored to be in the closet. We see you Lady G!"

One user said, "Does it seem a bit ironic that Lindsey Graham is running off at the mouth about 'family values' and telling women where the 'must stand' on abortion to be 'accepted' ? Not to mention telling persons of color 'how to behave' to go any where they want to ?!!" Another one questioned, "Why are there even republican women; do they like men telling what to do with their bodies? Lindsey Graham says women 'have a place in America' and 'can go anywhere' if they are against abortion."

Slamming him, one wrote, "Lindsey Graham is at it again, suggesting we go back to the 1940s, where women “embrace a traditional family structure.” Submissive to men, oppose abortion and be religious - sorry, I’m not going backwards."  Another one said, "Lindsey Graham says women 'have a place in America' and 'can go anywhere' if they are against abortion". No man should even have a say in a WOMAN's right to her OWN BODY!!! Especially a gay LG. LG talking about woman's rights is ironic as hell."
