An Instagram star had allegedly operated a sex trafficking ring involving minors, luring them with false promises of modeling opportunities, authorities have said.

Columbian social media star Liliana del Carmen Campos Puello allegedly provided minor, vulnerable girls to service celebrity clients as well as VIP politicians, authorities said. According to The Times of London, Puello was caught as a part of a sting procedure called Operation Vesta in July 2018.

Shocking details have been reported about the sex ring, with child sex slaves allegedly getting branded with tattoos by their "owners". They were forced to attend sex parties in luxury yachts and hotels. The sex ring was reportedly in Cartagena, where her trial is currently underway.

The 48-year-old Puello was nicknamed "La Madame" and reportedly recruited around 400 girls. She is said to have told them about modeling opportunities that they could potentially have and would send them money as well as help them out with passports. When they arrived at Cartagena, their documents would be taken away and they would be forced into prostitution. Most of the girls were reportedly from financially weak backgrounds.

The trafficked girls were photographed and shown in catalogs where their "owners" would pick the girls from the list, according to reports. Approximately 250 minors were involved in Cartagena in one year and according to the Attorney General's Office, Puello used her network to organize these events where the victims were forced to attend.

Puello did not shy away from flaunting her money on social media, sometimes literally posing with cash. She would chronicle her posh life in racy pictures and designer garb, according to snaps posted by The Daily Mail. However, she denied that she had ever had minors in the ring. "Never, never have there been minors involved," Puello reportedly told local media in an interview from jail.

Prostitution is legal in Columbia and she claimed that all the women were older than 18. She had a previous drug charge from 2002 where she was convicted of federal drug trafficking in New York. According to a report on Tribune UK, women were also trafficked to the Caribbean Islands, including the Bahamas. Lead prosecutor Mario Gomez had said at the time that he was positive about her conviction that would result in a sentence of 23 years.
