Kirk Douglas’ wife Anne Buydens celebrates 101st birthday as family wishes her through procession of cars
Kirk Douglas’ wife Anne Buydens celebrated her 101st birthday with her family on Thursday, April 23, while practicing social distancing. She watched the celebration from the sidewalk as her nearest and dearest ones celebrated the day with social-distanced car procession.
It was Buydens’ first birthday without her husband who died at the age of 103 in February. However, her family members did not let her down despite the Covid-19 lockdown as they drove by her home and wished her a happy birthday. Her grandson, Cameron Douglas, also participated in the celebration.
The 41-year-old also shared the video of the joyful day in his Instagram stories as he said to his fans and followers, “Here we are, coming to Anne’s 101st birthday. First birthday without Pappy. Now we’re going to stay with it as we go through this amazing procession."
Continuing, he said: “Now, we’ve been in line for about 20 or 30 minutes. I’d wait 20 or 30 hours to say happy birthday to Anne and here we go” as he drove into the philanthropist’s driveway. Soon he was greeted by several people wearing masks and gloves lining the sidewalk, who were also present there to celebrate the day.
"Hello, hello, hello! We got some flowers for Anne," Cameron said in the Instagram video as someone takes the flowers from him and delivers them to Buydens, who was seen sitting in a balloons-decorated wheelchair under a tree next to her dog. The widow of Kirk wore a purple outfit for her birthday.
The ‘It Runs in the Family’ actor also posted a happy birthday message for his grandmother on his social media account as he shared a photo of Buydens and his late grandfather, Kirk, writing, "Happy Birthday Oma 🥂 Here’s to 101 years of Love, Light and Guidance! We Love you!"
Cameron’s step-sister, Carys Douglas, also wished the old lady as shared a throwback black-and-white photo of Buydens and Kirk smiling while enjoying a dip in a pool on her Instagram stories.
Catherine Zeta-Jones, Carys’ mother, took to Instagram to wish her stepmother-in-law as well as she posted a picture of her and Buydens, and captioned it, “Happy Birthday to my extraordinary stepmother-in-law. Our Queen, our Oma. You personify everything that is good in a woman. I admire you and love you so very much. 101 years young today. 🥰🥰Anne Douglas thank you for everything that you have done for people in our world. ❤️."
Buydens’ actor husband, Kirk, passed away on February 5, 2020. His death was announced by his son Michael Douglas, who posted a statement on his Instagram page, writing: “It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103. To the world, he was a legend, an actor from the golden age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in setting a standard for all of us to aspire to.”
“But to me and my brothers Joel and Peter he was simply Dad, to Catherine, a wonderful father-in-law, to his grandchildren and great-grandchild their loving grandfather, and to his wife Anne, a wonderful husband,” he added.
