The Supreme Court on Tuesday (June 16) issued a stay order on the execution of Ruben Gutierrez, who is convicted of murdering an 85-year-old woman by stabbing her 80 times with a screwdriver in 1998. Gutierrez was to be administered with a lethal injection at Texas State Penitentiary in Huntsville, but the execution was canceled just an hour prior as the prison system didn’t grant him the permission to have a chaplain accompany him in the death chamber.

On learning about the stay on Gutierrez's execution, Kim Kardashian West, who is pursuing law and has turned an advocate for criminal justice reform, took to Twitter to thank the Supreme Court for its latest move. She shared, "UPDATE!!!! Thank you Supreme Court of the United States for granting a Stay of Execution for Ruben Gutierrez! Now his case will go back to the lower courts to decide the issues with his case!" Kim is one of many activists who have claimed that Gutierrez has been wrongfully convicted and has demanded a DNA test to prove his criminal act.

Impressed with Kim's latest post, several of her fans took to Twitter to laud her for her role in bringing justice to the allegedly wrongfully incarcerated Texas inmate. While one fan wrote, "Thank you Kim for using your voice to help fight injustice and thank you to everyone that retweeted, signed petitions and made phone calls for Ruben. We can all make a difference." Another fan re-tweeted Kim's original tweet and called her a "bad b***h" for stepping forward to prove Gutierrez’s innocence. But one Twitter user, who claims to be the 85-year-old woman's granddaughter who Gutierrez allegedly killed, has slammed Kim for her post. She wrote, "He killed my Aunt. Stabbed her with a screwdriver 80 times through the head and neck and body. She was 82 and 90lbs. Kim has NO idea wtf she’s talking about." Kim is yet to respond to this comment.

Meanwhile, some are urging the reality star to use her knowledge in law to work towards the Black Lives Matter movement. "This is so great! I do appreciate you, as well as the many thousands out there without a platform. I truly hope you're now educated on the hurt it causes African Americans with your use of black fishing for profit and cultural appropriation. Let’s all grow and do better together," one wrote.
