Spoiler alert

In Episode 7 of the second season of Showtime's tragicomedy 'Kidding', we see Deirdre Piccirillo (Catherine Keener) deal with the absence of her brother Jeff Piccirillo (Jim Carrey) during the award ceremony that would honor him with a Lifetime Achievement Award. Jeff was off at an institute that cares for older people who suffer from dementia while his father Seb (Frank Langella) suffered a minor stroke that has him seeing the past.

Episode 8 takes us back to how 'Puppet Time' was first created. Years ago, when the Kennedy Space Centre was set to launch a rocket into space, Jeff saw the dreams of children get crushed as a malfunction resulted in the rocket exploding. Jeff is then able to recruit his sister Deirdre to use the same power of TV to heal the children. Together they come up with Puppet Time and in this process, Astron-otter was born.

Both the episodes were heartwarming just like all of 'Kidding' has been. One of the more touching scenes in Episode 7 was when Seb spoke to his granddaughter Maddy Perera (Juliet Morris). He and his granddaughter pinky promise to keep the news to themselves, but we as viewers are able to see that Seb may have suffered more than realizes.

One viewer commented on that scene saying, "I love how Seb and Maddy interact. I wonder if Deirdre sees/notices that while she is still looking for her dad’s attention and approval he is one of the healthiest parental relationships her own daughter has. He knows and values her interests, listens to her, trusts her. All of what Deirdre wants."

User viewer wrote, "I. LOVE. EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS EPISODE. First of all, I want to point out that nostalgia therapy is a real thing for elderly people. Most nursing homes don't get this bougie with it. But I love that poignant line where they discuss how most people with dementia are trying to get to a place that does not exist."

The viewer added, "Also, as someone with a highly dysfunctional family, I LOVE jeffs realization that the loving family he's had in his head was never a reality. It sucks. You want a loving family. You can try so hard to improve relationships with people, but the reality is they have to make the effort too, and some people just won't."

Commenting on both the episodes, another viewer wrote, "Holy crap, these two episodes were way better than 2x06, and where to start. Creds to Bert and Bertie's directing, Tyler was cool, Seb makes me feel bad because of dementia or whatever he’s going through, LOUISE (that was her name right?) BLAKE GRIFFINJust wow. Also, I wasn’t aware that they were realizing episodes back to back instead of singles."

Another fan commented, "I absolutely love this season! I go through so many different emotions each episode. I have one thing from this episode that is making me confused. What's the deal with the broken pickle jars outside the studio? At first, they are broken. Then we see that they were put together by the children and presumably thrown by the crazed scout leader. But then we see Deirdre and Derrell leave the studio near the end of the episode and all the pickle jars are unbroken and in a neat row. What is the story of the pickle jars outside the studio? Thanks!"

'Kidding' Season 2 airs on Sundays at 10 pm EST on Showtime.
