MANCHESTER, NEW HAMPSHIRE: The girlfriend of a New Hampshire man who was charged with the disappearance of his seven-year-old daughter has reportedly been found dead in a hotel room.

27-year-old Kelsey Smalls was found dead in Manchester on March 13, but her death was only made public on Thursday, March 24. Authorities have not shared any further details surrounding her death, which is not believed to be suspicious. Smalls was dating Adam Montgomery, who was arrested in January over the disappearance of his daughter Harmony Montgomery.

According to police records in Goffstown, Smalls was arrested outside a sober home where she was living and charged with DUI, which was her second offense. The 27-year-old was reportedly released on a personal recognizance bail and was scheduled to appear in court next week. However, she was found dead in a New Hampshire hotel room five days later, WMUR reported.

Smalls was living in a car with Harmony's father in January when police tracked him down in order to interrogate him about his daughter's whereabouts. Montgomery was arrested after he gave conflicting accounts to the authorities and charged with felony second-degree assault for a 2019 incident involving Harmony, one misdemeanor charge of interference with custody, and two misdemeanor charges of endangering the welfare of a child after allegedly hitting his daughter.

Little Harmony was last seen in October 2019 when she was put in Adam Montgomery’s custody after her mother Crystal Sorey lost the same owing to substance abuse issues. However, Montgomery's girlfriend Smalls was never charged in connection to his daughter's disappearance, albeit her sudden demise means she won't be able to share any information that may have helped investigators looking for Harmony. Smalls's cousin addressed the tragedy in a statement to WMUR. "She was so much more than that, and I hate that one of her last connections here on Earth was to him," the statement read, referring to Montgomery.

Montgomery's brother Michael accused him of being "physically abusive" toward his now-missing daughter. Meanwhile, Montgomery's uncle Kevin told detectives that he had seen Harmony with a black eye and that Adam told him how he "bashed her around this house" after an incident with her younger brother, an arrest affidavit states. Kevin also claimed he'd seen Adam span his daughter, force her to scrub the toilet with her toothbrush, and leave her standing in a corner for hours, per the affidavit.

That said, Montgomery's ex-wife Kayla has also been arrested and charged with one count of theft by deception and two misdemeanor charges of welfare fraud after she allegedly collected more than $1,500 in food stamp benefits between December 2019 and June 2021 despite Harmony no longer living with her and her then-husband Adam. Police have described Harmony as 4 feet tall, weighing about 50 pounds, with blond hair and blue eyes. She is reportedly blind in her right eye and wears glasses. Anyone with information related to her disappearance is urged to contact the Manchester Police Department at 603-668-8711, Detective Jack Dunleavy at 603-792-5561, or the anonymous CrimeLine tip line at 603-624-4040.
