Kansas judge calls teen girls 'aggressors' in sex solicitation case, reduces pedophile's prison sentence

Prosecutors and child advocacy activists have slammed the judge for the rationale he used during the judgment
UPDATED FEB 5, 2019

A judge in Kansas is being slammed after he called two girls, 13 and 14 years old, the "aggressors" and gave a reduced sentence to a 67-year-old man who had solicited them for sex.

Leavenworth County District Judge Michael Gibbens sentenced Raymond Soden to five years and 10 months -- eight years less than what the state recommends in its sentencing guidelines — in prison after he was found guilty of paying the teens for sex.

The Daily Mail reported that Gibbens claimed that the young girls were partially accountable for the incident because they voluntarily went to Soden's home and accepted payment for the sex.

The judge said before sentencing the pedophile in December last year: "I do find that the victims in this case, in particular, were more an aggressor than a participant in the criminal conduct."
