'The Flight Attendant': What 'white lie' did Kaley Cuoco tell to get HBO's drama mystery made?

'The Flight Attendant' is an HBO Max original coming-of-age drama mystery airing their first three episodes on Thursday, November 26, 2020. The series follows a flight attendant played named Cassie Bowden played by 'The Big Bang Theory' star Kaley Cuoco who wakes up next to a dead body after a drunken night in Bangkok. Not knowing what happened the night before, thanks to an intense hangover, Bowden struggles to figure out the details as the FBI is after her – did she kill her date played by Alex Sokolov? Fingers point towards her because in a haze she even cleaned up the crime scene! While we are all anticipating the series to drop, there is one interesting reason behind how the series got made. Apparently, actress Cuoco told a 'little white lie' to get things moving on the production.

The HBO Max miniseries is based on the novel of the same name, authored by Chris Bohjalian, in 2018. In an interview with  Entertainment Weekly, she revealed that she lied to move this forward with it came to the production. The article revealed that when the series 'The Big Bang Theory' was coming to an end, Cuoco read one sentence of the summary of Bohjalian's novel and wanted to make it a show. When she wanted her production company Yes, Norman to acquire the rights, the staff asked her if she read the book. Cuoco said, "They said to me, 'So you read the book? You love the book?' I said, 'Oh yeah, I totally read the book.' And I had not read the book, but I knew I would like it. So I just kind of told a little white lie to get this stuff going because it takes a long time."

Speaking of her lead character, Cuoco also said, "No matter what I do in life, I'm silly. I don't take myself too seriously, and we have brought that into the character."

The official synopsis reads, "The Flight Attendant is a story of how an entire life can change in one night. A flight attendant (Kaley Cuoco) wakes up in the wrong hotel, in the wrong bed, with a dead man – and no idea what happened. The dark comedic thriller is based on the novel of the same name by New York Times best-selling author Chris Bohjalian."
