Justin Bieber jokes about ‘arranged marriage’ with Hailey Baldwin during interview with Demi Lovato on ‘Ellen’
On Friday, March 6, ‘The Ellen DeGeneres Show’ saw something special. Popstar and actor Demi Lovato, as a guest host on the talk show, interviewed Justin Bieber.
Lovato recalled how they had met for the first time when both of them were just teenagers. "You were outside of a radio station — I was doing an interview that day -- and you came up to me, and you just like ran up and was like, 'Can I have a picture? And I was like, 'Yeah, for sure,' and it was so sweet, you were like, 'My name's Justin. I'm Justin Bieber. You're gonna know my name one day.'”
Bieber, talking about the pressures of the music industry, said, “I think for a while I tried to run away from some stuff, you know? I tried to run away from the industry, tried to run away from what I felt like God wanted me to do, but I feel like this is what you and I are both meant to do, you know? You're meant to entertain and sing, and I think same as me. So when we run away from that, it's almost like we become less happy.”
Talking about their shared experiences with addiction and mental health issues, Lovato said on the show, “We both had similar stories being in the industry really young and then we both had our struggles.”
She added, “I looked at you as an inspiration because you've been through this, and you've come out on the other side.” She also said, “I really just admire the man that you are today.”
Further discussing the addiction, and especially how the subject was probed in his documentary series, ‘Justin Bieber: Seasons’, he, the ‘Yummy’ singer said, “There's a fear in showing vulnerability. I think the more mature you become, the more you understand that there's power in your weakness. And when you're able to show that, it gives other people the confidence to say, 'You know, I'm going through similar things myself.'”
The two also spoke about Bieber’s wife Hailey and their marriage. “She was raised Christian, and they found out that I -- I think it was an arranged marriage, I'm pretty sure,” Bieber told Lovato. “Looking back now, it was definitely an arranged marriage, they set this whole thing up. Since she was raised Christian, [her dad] was like, 'I want to introduce you to Justin and his mom, they have similar values and believe the same thing, we think you guys would be good friends.' It was definitely an arranged marriage now that I'm thinking about it, goodness gracious!”
