Reactions were abuzz on social media after the American Bar Association announced on Sunday, October 11 that it has given Supreme Court nominee Judge Amy Coney Barrett its highest rating, as the Senate confirmation hearings are currently underway. The ABA advised in a letter addressed to Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham and ranking member Dianne Feinstein that Barrett is "well qualified" to serve at the Supreme Court, The Blaze reported.

The letter was shared on Twitter Sunday by DC Examiner reporter Jerry Dunleavy, who wrote, "The American Bar Association released its determination that Judge Amy Coney Barrett is 'Well Qualified' on the eve of the start of her Supreme Court confirmation hearings."

"The American Bar Association's Standing Committee on the federal judiciary has completed its evaluation of the professional qualifications of Judge Amy Coney Barrett, who has been nominated by the President to be an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States," the letter reads. "As you know, the Standing Committee confines its evaluation to the qualities of integrity, professional competence, and judicial temperament," it continues. "A substantial majority of the standing committee determined that Judge Barrett is 'Well Qualified,' and a minority is of the opinion that she is 'Qualified' to serve on the Supreme Court of the United States." "The majority rating represents the Standing Committee's official rating," the letter concludes.

In 2001, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer described the American Bar Association's judicial ratings as the "gold standard by which judicial candidates are judged," as noted by the Daily Wire. Republicans rushed to defend Judge Barrett's credentials to become a SCOTUS Justice and called out an apparent double-standard on the other side of the political aisle.

"Amy Coney Barrett respects the Constitution and will uphold the rule of law. That’s exactly what drives the Left crazy," Rep Jim Jordan tweeted. "The American Bar Association just gave Judge Amy Coney Barrett their highest possible rating — 'Well Qualified' to serve on the Supreme Court. Chuck Schumer and Senate Democrats have called this rating the 'gold standard,'" GOP chairwoman Ronna McDaniel added. "Democrats have long said the American Bar Association is the 'gold standard' and they have determined Judge Amy Coney Barrett is WELL QUALIFIED to be Supreme Court Justice. Judge Barrett is a highly respected legal scholar & is certainly WELL QUALIFIED," Sen Chuck Grassley echoed.

Some others, however, were still miffed at Judge Barrett's nomination to the highest court of the country as Senate confirmation hearings commenced. "Elections have consequences and one of those is that the party in power nominates judges, but let’s not let the GOP pretend Amy Coney Barrett is RBG anymore than Clarence Thomas is Thurgood Marshall," MSNBC contributor Joyce Alene tweeted.

"Amy Coney Barrett not requesting her hearings be delayed until proper background investigations can be done and her failure to make full disclosures in the documents she has filed show a lack of regard for process that is disqualifying," Comedian Guy Branum added. "The Senate focusing on Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination instead of coronavirus relief is a complete abomination. And more than enough reason to vote Lapdog Lindsey, Moscow Mitch and the rest of these criminals out of office," Democrat activist Scott Dworkin chimed in.
