Who is Juan Pablo Torres? Amber alert canceled as Giselle Torres, 7, found safe after being abducted by dad
Pennsylvania State Police canceled the Amber alert issued earlier about seven-year-old Giselle Torres. She has been found safe. An Amber alert was issued for the abducted girl on September 25 evening. Police say she was allegedly taken by her biological father, 41-year-old Juan Pablo Torres, according to CBS Philly.
According to police, Torres is a resident of Queens and he surrendered in New York City after speaking with a hostage negotiator. The charges against him are pending. Cheltenham Police Lt Andy Snyder said, “We were able to determine that he was in New York City with the child. One of our hostage negotiators were able to get him on the phone and negotiate his surrender to the New York City Police Department.”
Giselle was found uninjured. She was taken to a New York City hospital for assessment and her return home was being coordinated. Before tracing her, Giselle was last seen at 2:18 pm on Montgomery Avenue in Elkins Park. Police, as per the report, stated that Giselle was allegedly taken by Torres and two other men who were armed and wearing body armor. “Upon the arrival of officers, they discovered that a seven-year-old female had been abducted by three men that had fled in two separate vehicles,” Snyder said.
The investigators soon figured out that that Torres was heading north. The other two men who were reportedly part of the alleged abduction have not been caught or identified at this time, but police say that there is no remaining threat to the public.
According to 6abc report, sources say the alleged abduction was the result of a custody dispute. Police say the men fled in two separate cars and were tracked heading northbound on the New Jersey Turnpike towards NYC. Further investigation led them to believe that they were headed to the father's home in the Queen's section. Eventually, they were able to make contact with the father ending the entire ordeal peacefully. The 6abc report also states police are still not sure about the reason behind the alleged kidnapping, and they are still in the early stages of the investigation. The estranged father is in the custody of New York City Police facing multiple charges including kidnapping, endangering the welfare of a child as well as other related charges.
As per cbs6albany had reported, at the time of Amber alert, Torres was described as a Hispanic male with brown hair and brown eyes. He is approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. And he was last seen wearing body armor, a facemask, and glasses.
