An editor of the local news outlet was in for a shock when she rushed to Marshall County High School in Draffenville, Kentucky after reports of an active shooting on the premises.

When she reached the high school, she realized that the alleged gunman was her own son — 15-years-old Gabe Parker. Although authorities did not reveal the name of the suspect, who killed two teenagers during the shooting, Courier Journal identified the alleged suspect citing mulitple people who know the family or had direct knowledge of the incident.

Editor Mary Garrison Minyard's colleague at the Marshall county Daily Online, Ann Beckett, said she took over the story after it was found the suspect was her son, Courier Journal reported. Parker, on Tuesday, stormed the high school's common area at 8 am and opened fire on the students, killing Bailey Nicole Holt and Preston Ryan Cope.

Nicole's mother Secret Holt said she received a phone call from her daughter before she succumbed to the bullet wounds.

"All I could hear was voices and chaos in the background and she couldn’t say anything. I called her name over and over and she never responded, so we rushed to the high school," Holt said, according to NY Daily News.

The other victim's father, Brian Cope, said even before reaching the school he knew that his son had been shot in the incident. After arriving, when he peered into an ambulance, he saw the socks he had laid out for Preston the night before.

According to Courier Journal's report, Preston was shot in the head and hand and eventually died on his way to the hospital. Reports state that four more victims were also injured in the incident when they attempted to flee the scene.

The suspect's classmates and friends described him as a quiet, shy boy who played trombone and was often called "grandmother's boy," as he was very close to her and treated her like his best friend.

A sophomore in Parker's math class two years ago — Ashley Collins — told Courier Journal that Parker seemed like a "really good kid."

Referring to rumors online that Parker was bullied, Collins said she had no direct knowledge of if something like that ever happened.

Parker, who was arrested within minutes, was charged as a juvenile with two counts of murder and 12 counts of assault. Authorities said they are in the process of gathering evidence to try him as an adult, according to reports.

Reports state that Parker's parents separated when he was just 5-years-old and his father —Austin Parker— remarried another woman before they also separated in 2016.

Courier Journal reported that Austin Parker was charged with fourth-degree assault and spent 90 days in jail after he allegedly slapped his second wife during an argument.
