President Joe Biden told ABC's 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' why he has not taken an executive action on gun control yet. Biden's comments come amid an ongoing discussion about ways to curb gun violence in the wake of the Uvalde school shooting. A deadly massacre unfolded at Robb Elementary school in Uvalde on May 24 when 18-year-old Salvador Ramos barricaded himself inside a classroom and slaughtered 19 students and two teachers. Police faced sharp criticism for allegedly failing to stop the shooting quickly enough and come to the victims' rescue on time. Ramos was shot dead by an off-duty Customs and Border Protection agent from an elite tactical unit.

Show host Jimmy Kimmel pressed the president on the issue. He pointed at how former president Donald Trump passed executive orders out "like Halloween candy". "Can't you issue an executive order? Trump passed those out like Halloween candy," Kimmel said.

Biden then claimed that he has issued executive orders "within the power of the presidency." "What I don't want to do, and I'm not being facetious, I don't want to emulate Trump's abuse of the constitution," Biden said." "I often get asked: 'Look, the Republicans don't play it square, why do you play it square?' Well, guess what? If we do the same thing they do, our democracy will literally be in jeopardy."

"It's like you're playing Monopoly with somebody who won't pass Go and won't follow any of the rules," Kimmel then asked the President. "How do you ever make any progress if they're not following the rules?" "Well, you gotta send 'em to jail," Biden replied, apparently referring to the popular board game.

Biden has been slammed for his comments on the Executive Order, with Twitter claiming it is time for him to do everything in his power to protect children. "I see your point, but this is different. We’re in a crisis, and you have to do everything- absolutely everything- to protect our children from getting murdered at school. Executive orders were made for this moment in history," one user wrote. "If our government can’t do anything after 19 kids are slaughtered and several decapitated it’s time to change who’s in government," another said.

One said, "This is how it’s going to go. Trump abused the executive order. Now Biden won’t use the EO bc he doesn’t want to emulate Trump. Next Republican president will abuse the EO. The next Dem pres won’t as not to emulate the Repubs. So who is always in power?" One user wrote, "Tonight Biden said he won't sign an executive order to help solve this problem because he doesn't want to emulate Trump's abuse of executive power. I'm livid. He needs to get out a pen & do something right now!"
