BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS: Jimmy Buffett, the legendary tropical rocker, was forced to cancel his South Carolina gig due to an unexpected trip to the hospital. The ‘Margaritaville’ hitmaker stated he needed to "address some issues that needed immediate attention" when he canceled a performance with his Coral Reefer band in Charleston on May 20.

The 76-year-old stated that he was admitted to a Boston hospital after a "check-up." “I had a sudden change of plans this week that affected us all,” Buffett wrote on social media on May 18. “Two days ago, I was just back from a trip to the Bahamas, thawing out from the California ‘winter tour,’ and chomping at the bit to get to Charleston.”

‘Growing old is not for sissies’

“Growing old is not for sissies, I promise you,” Buffett added. “I also will promise you, that when I am well enough to perform, that is what I’ll be doing in the land of She-Crab soup.” “You all make my life more meaningful and fulfilled than I would have ever imagined as a tow-headed little boy sitting on the edge of the Gulf of Mexico,” he added.

“Thank you for your prayers and thoughts, your amazing years of loyalty, and just remember, ‘NOT YET!’ Love to all!” The canceled show at Credit One Stadium, dubbed The Coast of Carolina Show, was part of Buffett's Second Wind Tour 2023.

Scotty Emerick, a country artist, was scheduled to perform at the show. All previously purchased tickets will be honored when the new date is confirmed. It's not the first time Buffett has had health problems in recent years.

Shows canceled in 2022

The ‘It's 5 O'Clock Somewhere’ singer was briefly hospitalized in September 2022, forcing him to cancel five of his remaining gigs that year. "Due to health issues and a brief hospitalization, Jimmy will need to refrain from touring for the rest of the year," his representative said at the time. “On doctor’s orders, he must take this time to recuperate and heal. Jimmy looks forward to getting back on stage next year.”

He recently performed on the West Coast in a number of makeup shows from the previous season. The singer and his band are presently composing their first record after the release of their 2020 album, ‘Life On The Flip Side’. In 2023, Buffett will commemorate the 45th anniversary of his popular 1978 album 'Son of a Son of a Sailor'.
