Cancel culture is the latest fad. It has been doing the rounds on the Internet for quite some time now. On July 21, filmmaker and entrepreneur Adam Best hit back at Republican Jim Jordan’s tweet about how quarterback Drew Brees, football coach Mike Gundy and basketball player James Harden were ‘canceled’ for different reasons. Best wrote on his post, “None of these people actually got canceled. If Jim Jordan didn't get canceled for what he ignored at Ohio State, then there really is no cancel culture.” He followed it up with the statement: “How bout Republicans worry about canceling coronavirus instead of spending their time on culture war bullshit?”

The Internet came out in support of Best. One Twitter user said, “I hate this term. Among other things, nothing is being "canceled," literally (TV show) or figuratively (someone being killed). Like many popular terms ("conspiracy theory" comes to mind), it does nothing other than obscure what's actually going on.”  Another said, “So define Mob @jim_jordan  I'll meet you at a Yankee game in the Bronx whenever they resume. But we now have two-week travel quarantines if you fly from Ohio. My American flag is hanging just fine. NOT CANCELED. We have fishing here. And swimming. NYPD just encourages masks.”

Last year, Jordan was harshly criticized for the Ohio State University abuse scandal. It was centered on allegations of sexual abuse that occurred between 1978 and 1998, while Dr Richard Strauss was employed by The Ohio State University (OSU) in the Athletics Department and in the Student Health Center. An independent investigation into the allegations was announced in April 2018 and a report released in May 2019. As per a CNN report, the University issued an statement saying, "The report concludes that university personnel at the time had knowledge of complaints and concerns about Strauss' conduct as early as 1979 but failed to investigate or act meaningfully.” The allegations against Strauss, who died by suicide in 2005, came into light in 2018 after former Ohio State athletes came forward to claim the doctor had sexually abused them under the guise of a medical examination. Later, in another CNN report it was stated that, “A former Ohio State University wrestler accused Rep. Jim Jordan of lying about not knowing of sexual abuse allegations against a university doctor during his time as an assistant coach there 25 years ago.”  The same report claims that Jordan has denied knowing about the allegations of abuse when he was assistant coach for the university's wrestling team from 1987 to 1995.

Twitter was in an unforgiving mood as usual and dragged this matter as well. One user said, “Gym Jordan back at it again, proving he doesn’t have a clue about anything. To think he’s trying to equate accountability while being unaccountable for allowing those boys to be abused!! Gym needs to sit this one out.” Another alleged, “You allowed kids to be abused under your watch- still not cancelled. You should be ashamed of yourself.”

In one his interviews to Fox News, Jordan had stated, "Where does it end? Where does it stop? No one is safe with the mob and that's why it is so important that we stand up now before this gets even more out of conrol. Stand up and say it is wrong, it should not happen, this politically correct cancel culture left-wing mob is exactly wrong for this country and this election is when we can stand up and say 'we're not going to tolerate it.'"
