Jim Chung: Missing Mt Baldy hiker, 75, found ALIVE as search for Julian Sands continues in same area
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The second hiker, who went missing on Mount Baldy in California, has reportedly been found safe by rescue personnel. Jin Chung, 75, a Los Angeles resident, was reported missing on Sunday, January 22 in the same area, where actor Julian Sands was last seen nearly two weeks ago.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff on Tuesday, January 24, announced that Chung was located alive on the other side of the mountain. Chung “suffered some weather-related injuries and a leg injury but was able to walk out with the assistance of the crew members," the sheriff's department said. The 75-year-old was last seen at 6 am on Saturday morning before heading to the San Gabriel Mountains for his hike.

The San Bernardino Sheriff's Department continued by saying that the authorities are desperately using "ground and air search efforts" to locate the 'Boxing Helena' actor, who embarked on a hike at the same mountain. The actor was reported missing on Friday, January 13, by his wife Eugenia Citkowitz, whom he married in 1990. "As of this time, Mr Sands has not been found and no evidence of his current location has been discovered. The search will continue, weather and ground conditions permitting," the sheriff's department said in a statement on Tuesday, according to People.
Reflecting on the latest update, Julian's brother Nick Sands revealed that he believes the actor has gone. "He has not yet been declared missing, presumed dead, but I know in my heart that he has gone," Nick told the Craven Herald & Pioneer. He added, "However sibling rivalry being what it is, it would be just like him to walk out of there and prove me wrong." Nick said he last saw Julian, whom he affectionately calls "Jules,” last in October 2022.

Nick and Julian, along with their three other siblings, were supposed to meet on Monday, January 30, for a special brothers' gathering but destiny had some other plans. "On Monday, he had planned to join his brothers for our Monday Club for a beer in Skipton; he will be missed, and I guess we will raise a glass to him," Nick said. The brother further noted that Mount Badly was one of the actor’s favorite mountains. "When in LA, the Mt. Baldy mountain range was his favorite place, he would go there as often as he could, Julian liked to say 'I have never had a holiday but I do rest occasionally,'" Nick said.

He added, "Well, he's resting now in a place he would truly approve of." Nick also spoke about Julian’s passion and love for hiking and said "it was the hills and mountains where Julian really revived, hiking in the Yorkshire Dales leading on to him climbing iconic mountains like the Matterhorn and the Eiger, technically challenging but high reward."
