Jessica Simpson was criticized online after she posted a series of photos on Instagram showing her three-year-old daughter Birdie using a pacifier during a family vacation.

42-year-old Simpson shared a number of photos from her family getaway to Lake Austin in Texas, where she spent some quality time with her husband Eric Johnson, and their three children, daughters Birdie, 3, and Maxwell, 10, and son Ace, 9. The photos, which were posted over the weekend, showed the family having a good time on a boat as they celebrated the Fourth of July weekend in the singer's native Texas.

"The lake life," Simpson captioned the upload, accompanied by a sun emoticon. While the heartwarming images captured all the fun the family had on their vacation, viewers raised eyebrows when they saw Birdie, who turned 3 in March, using a pacifier. The observation sparked a debate in the comments section, with a number of Simpson's followers arguing that the child was too old to be using one.

"Why the binkie tho isn’t she too old for that ..????" one fan asked, while another wrote, "Beautiful family but lose the pacifier. Wow." Someone else offered, "That kid is too old for a binky though...That will definitely mess up her lips," adding that she also ran the risk of "jacking up the teeth."

A comment read, "Doesn't her youngest daughter's pediatrician tell Jessica and her husband that she's too old for a pacifier?" Another opined, "Passy needs to be gone. It messes up their teeth so bad... my friend is finding that out his kid has major dental issues."

Some, however, pushed back on the "judgy" comments, saying Simpson was doing nothing wrong by letting her daughter continue to use a pacifier. One said that Birdie "is only a toddler [and] maybe it was the only thing [to] calm her in the boat ride! looks like it was nap time!" Another gushed, "Your kids are so cute," adding, "So many judgy comments about Birdie's paci, I know the struggle. My youngest was so hard to break from hers & then she switched to her thumb."

This comes after Simpson penned a powerful and inspiring message to herself in honor of her 42nd birthday on Monday, July 10. The acclaimed singer shared a photo of herself posing in a knee-length black cutout dress while basking in the glow of the moon.

"Oh Lil Mrs 42 look at you leanin' into the moonbeams to recharge and radiate a purposeful glowing heart," she wrote in the caption. "I am very proud of my faith, resilience, and strength over the last 4 decades. Everything in my life that has or hasn't happened yet makes turning 42 very exciting because I know what it takes personally to remain inside of DETERMINED PATIENCE," she continued. "I know myself and I do love her very much. I know my purpose and I must say that ladies and gents I am equipped to waltz within every dream I own confidently. I am humbled and honored to finally be my own best friend. Ok ✨42✨ time to Rock 'n' Roll," the 'Open Book' author concluded.
