Jeffrey Epstein's death leaked on 4Chan 40 minutes before news broke, police suspect emergency medical staff

The New York City Fire Department is looking into the possibility that the information was leaked from one of the first responders to the scene
UPDATED AUG 14, 2019

The news of multimillionaire financier and convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein's suicide was posted on an anonymous internet messaging board 40 minutes before the first reports of his death circulated online.

Epstein, 66, was being held at Manhattan's Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) following his arrest on July 6 last month on federal charges for sex trafficking of minors in Florida and New York.

Following a failed suicide attempt on July 23, where he was ultimately revived after he was found injured and semiconscious in his cell, Epstein allegedly killed himself on August 10.

He was found 'unresponsive' in his cell in the Special Housing Unit (SHU) at around 6:30 am, and could not be revived.

He was pronounced dead at the New York-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital a few hours later.

The first tweet announcing the 66-year-old's death was posted at around 8:54 am by an ABC News reporter.

However, around 38 minutes before that tweet, an anonymous user had confirmed the death on 4Chan.

"[D]on't ask me how I know, but Epstein died an hour ago from hanging, cardiac arrest. Screencap this," read the message posted at 8:16 am.

Accompanying the post was an image of Pepe the frog, a figure that has become synonymous with the right-wing trolls online.

That post could have easily been disregarded as a coincidence if it weren't for what seemed to be insider information on the detailed procedures allegedly used to revive Epstein.

"[W]orked asystole arrest for 40 minutes, als intubated in the field/epi/2 liters NS infused," the user wrote. "Telemetry advised bicarb and D50 in field. Pt transported to Lower Manhattan ER and worked for 20 minutes and called. Hospital administrator was alerted, preparing statements."

The user also posted detailed information about the medical procedures used to resuscitate Epstein (Source: 4Chan/Screenshot)

The intricate level of medical information given about Epstein led to the suspicion that the user was a first responder at the scene, reported Buzzfeed News.

The New York City Fire Department has since looked into the allegation, but have said that they "determined this alleged information did not come from the fire department."

FDNY spokesman Frank Dwyer said that their Office of Healthcare Compliance had conducted a review and that after looking at their records, there was no match.

He said he "could not verify the accuracy" of the information posted on 4Chan but said that any medical professional who divulges patient information without consent violates a federal health privacy law and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).

Oren Barzilay, the president of the union for EMT workers Local 2507 in New York, also said that the post was not the work of one of its members and that "this looks like a 3rd party info."

The accuracy of the 4Chan post cannot be verified until the full details and circumstances surrounding Epstein's death is released with the coroner's report.
