Is 'Vanderpump Rules' scripted?

If former 'Vanderpump Rules' star Jax Taylor is to be believed, the show does have scripted elements in it. The former designer and his wife Brittany Cartwright claimed that after eight years with the show, they won't be returning for any further seasons ahead. While announcing their exit, Jax claimed, "I was 100 percent checked out at the end." "I was just very irritable on the show. It was getting a little bit too scripted for me and I just couldn’t do it anymore. It wasn’t fun," added the reality star in an interview with US Weekly. His statement indeed hinted that the reality show's content was not all real. Jax said was done with the drama and arguments. He claimed to be looking for more "comedy, family-oriented" content.

Katie Maloney hints toward 'scripted' claims

As soon as Jax talked about the show being scripted, fans started digging deep into the claims. In an interview with Galore, Katie Maloney indirectly hinted toward the show having some of the scripted elements. She claimed, "It’s pretty not-scripted, you see our relationships are real." Katie further hinted that the reality show is not all real. She said, "We all have our history. There are plenty of shows out there that are kind of [cast] in ways where people don’t have any kind of history prior. But, it's also hard when making a show as they can’t show everything and they don’t show everything that’s positive." She further added that the negative storyline is sometimes exaggerated to paint people in certain light but does have a real element in it.

However, it wouldn't be fair to say that the show is entirely scripted to entirely real. The producers manipulate the editing according to them, adding up the needed spice to the storyline.

'Vanderpump Rules' Season 10 will release on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at 9/8c on Bravo.
