Irish punter sets record $27,000 bet on Trump winning 2020 presidential election a day before his impeachment
An Irish punter has set a whole new record with a massive €25,000 ($27,824) bet on how Donald Trump will win the 2020 presidential election.
Despite Trump's expected impeachment on Wednesday, a cork punter placed some massive bets on him being reelected. Bookmakers Paddy Power revealed on December 18 that the bet had been placed.
The gambler placed a huge bet with odds of 10/11 which means if Trump somehow wins in 2020, he will make around €47,000. A spokesperson for Paddy Power shared this had been the biggest bet that they had seen "on the market to date". As reported by The Sun, the spokesperson revealed, "This superfan is clearly confident all will remain peachy for President Trump."
"It’s the single biggest bet we have seen on market to date, giving me one more reason to cry like a giant angry baby if he’s re-elected," the spokesperson continued.
Donald Trump has been formally impeached by the House of Representatives for abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. Trump spent a large part of Wednesday tweeting and retweeting while the White House had claimed that Trump would be busy working rather than being focused on the proceedings in the House.
In one of his many Twitter posts, Trump had written, "Can you believe that I will be impeached today by the Radical Left, Do Nothing Democrats, AND I DID NOTHING WRONG!" While members of the House discussed and debated over the articles of impeachment, Trump's rant escalated to all capital letters.
He wrote, "SUCH ATROCIOUS LIES BY THE RADICAL LEFT, DO NOTHING DEMOCRATS. THIS IS AN ASSAULT ON AMERICA, AND AN ASSAULT ON THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!!!!"
The House considered two articles of impeachment. The first one charges him with abuse of power for allegedly pressuring the president of Ukraine to investigate his Democratic rivals while crucial US security aid was being withheld. The second one charges him with obstruction of Congress for stonewalling investigative efforts.
