LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘The View’ hosts always discuss major news topics on the show. After former president Donald Trump was indicted for the third time on August 1, 2023, the following day, the infamous indictment became a part of the ‘Hot Topics’ segment on ABC’s talk show, with Whoopi Goldberg, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sunny Hostin, Joy Behar, and Sara Haines present for it.

Hostin, who is also an attorney, apart from being a talk show host, had a lot to say about the former president's indictment. However, what surprised the viewers was Haines’ legal perspective. After Haines’ spoke about the charges against Trump, the viewers took to Twitter to mock the host for the same.

What did Haines say?

On Wednesday’s segment, ‘The View’ moderator Goldberg introduced the topic and it took an incredibly serious turn. After Hostin and Behar, Haines finally took center stage to talk about the said topic, halfway into the segment. Haines said, “One thing we also probably see is that Trump will turn on, five out of the six of these are lawyers, and it appears to be something where he is going to try to say he took action or advice from counsel, which I know there are two things they can prove. I’m putting my legal hat on so you guys can correct me if I’m wrong here.”

Haines continued, “One was if they can prove bad intention on Donald Trump’s part, which we’ve seen so much that they should be able to do, and two, if your conspirators are also your lawyers, and you’re conspiring with them, then that kind of removes that defense.” Haines then put her "regular hat" back on and Behar asked, “Did you go to law school today?” To which, Haines responded that she’s married to a lawyer and it has been "rubbing off" on her. Hostin intervened, “It doesn’t rub off though, because I’ve been married to an orthopedic surgeon, and I can’t do a hip replacement.”

‘Sara had the damn nerve’

Apart from Hostin, the viewers also had a lot to say about Haines’ “legal hat” as they took over Twitter to talk about the same. One person tweeted, "Sara 🙄 maybe you should let Sunny stick to legal stuff! You sound like you’re trying to sound intelligent #TheView.” Another said, “Sara, you don't have a legal hat. #theview.” Viewers quoted Haines in shock as one tweeted, “I’m putting my legal hat on.” Um no Sara! The federal lawyer just spoke. Is she serious? #TheView.”

Viewers have pointed out that Haines isn’t an attorney as one wrote, “#TheView Sara needs to stay in her lane. She's not an attorney,” while another tweeted, “@TheView Why is Sara putting on a legal hat when she is not an attorney? Love her but she has really been trying to be a legal expert lately 😂. I also am married to an attorney but I cannot argue before a judge!”

Viewers were outraged and slammed Haines as another person tweeted, “#TheView Now watching, Sara had the damn nerve to say "Let me put on my legal hat." What the hell? It confirms she often tries to outdo Sunny & probably seethes inwardly.”
