SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH: An 18-month-old boy died after his mother reportedly crashed her minivan into a pond, while on a joyride on a Salt Lake City golf course. Reports suggest that the mother, Brittanie Mae Miloshevsky, was allegedly driving under the influence and failed to spot a pond in the darkness as she drove around the greens.

According to reports, the police were called to the golf course near 3300 South and 600 West just before Sunday noon, June 7, on grounds of possible criminal mischief. The officers arriving at the place found a hole in the fence that led to the golf course where a minivan was partially submerged in a pond. They found the 28-year-old mother “passed out near a fence on the golf course”, as stated in a police affidavit that added: “(She) was lying on the ground and appeared to be trying to sleep.”

Police said that Miloshevsky admitted that she had been drinking while driving to the golf course. “Officers searched the area and located the car submerged in a pond near 700 W. 3300 South. Officers checked the car and located a small child submerged in the vehicle. The child was inside the cold water for a substantial period of time,” the affidavit mentioned. It added that the mother’s clothing was “completely soaked with water and it appears that she was inside the vehicle at the time that it went into the water.”

The child was reportedly taken out of the water after officers dove into the pond several times. He was soon rushed to Primary Children's Hospital in critical condition but he later died from his injuries. “An infant male child was extracted from the vehicle and transported to Primary Children’s Hospital in critical condition. The female also received medical attention,” a statement from South Salt Lake police on Monday morning, June 8, said.

It has been said that Miloshevsky was arrested and faces a number of charges including driving under the influence resulting in serious bodily injury, child abuse homicide, child endangerment and criminal mischief. Meanwhile, police officials said that since the pond water was part of a wastewater plant and officers dove into it to retrieve the toddler, they have also been treated at the hospital.

In a similar incident, a mother in 2018 intentionally tried to murder her five-year-old daughter and one-year-old son by driving her car into a Kansas river. The incident killed her older child, Amiyah Bradley, whose body was later retrieved from the Kansas River in Lawrence.

While the mother, Scharron Renea Dingledine, and her son were rescued from the scene, the boy suffered critical injuries and remained hospitalized at the time. The 26-year-old was accused of killing Amiyah in August 2018. The Douglas County District Attorney stated that she was charged with murder and attempted murder. “It appears Ms. Dingledine is a danger to herself and others in the public,” District Attorney Charles said. When Judge James George asked her if she understood the charges against her, Scharron responded: “Yes, your honor."
