The suspect 'is not known to the victim'

Tulane police said the suspect and the victim left together from a bar named The Boot on 1039 Broadway Street and entered the campus near Louise Hall, where they “began consensual intimate contact.” According to police, the victim “began to feel uncomfortable with the encounter” and urged the suspect to stop, but he "refused and forced sexual intercourse upon the victim and then fled the area in an unknown direction.”

The campus police department is reportedly investigating the incident along with the New Orleans Police Department. Authorities said that the suspect “is not known to the victim or law enforcement and is not in custody at this time.”

The rape and death of Madison Brooks

This incident comes days after the rape and murder of Madison Brooks. The 19-year-old allegedly worked at a bar in Louisiana where she met the suspects who allegedly assaulted her later. Police said that surveillance footage showed Brooks entering the bar around 10 pm on January 14, when she did not appear to be working. She met the juvenile suspect at the bar and left with him in an intoxicated state between 1 am and 2 am on January 15, the day the alleged assault occurred. The three other suspects later got into the car and allegedly raped Brooks. She was then dropped off nearby and eventually run over by a ride-share driver.

According to the autopsy, Brooks had "injuries consistent with previous sexual assault anally," as well as other injuries from the crash. Police said the driver of the vehicle will not be charged because he was not intoxicated. He also immediately called emergency services.
