Ilhan Omar trolls Trump by posing with Nancy Pelosi in Ghana: 'She went back with me'

GHANA: Freshman Congresswoman Ilhan Omar, on Thursday, responded to the racist "send her back" chants during one of President Donald Trump's rallies by posting a picture of herself with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on their visit to Africa.

Omar took to her Instagram and Twitter to post the picture and wrote: "They said ‘send her back’ but Speaker [Pelosi] didn’t just make arrangement to send me back, she went back with me." Pelosi and Omar are currently visiting Ghana as part of a Congressional trip to the African continent to commemorate the American slave trade's 400th anniversary.

The post from the Minnesota representative comes days after President Trump wrote a racist tweet, in which he told four Congresswomen of color to "go back" to their "totally broken and crime infested places from which they came from."

He also included Pelosi in his controversial tweet, saying that the speaker "would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”

"So interesting to see 'Progressive Democrat Congresswomen' who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all) now loudly and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!" Trump wrote in his tweets.

The four Congresswomen Trump was referring to were Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Ayanna S. Pressley of Massachusetts, popularly known as "the Squad" in Washington. All four congresswomen are American citizens.

Just days after Trump's controversial tweet, a crowd at a Trump rally in North Carolina chanted "send her back!" after the president mentioned Omar during his speech. He also reiterated a conspiracy theory about the Congresswoman, suggesting that she had married her brother and committed visa fraud.

When asked about his remarks, Trump insisted that his tweets on the four Congresswomen were not racist, however, the House voted to officially condemn his comments. The condemnation, however, did not deter the president as he later went on to denigrate the city of Baltimore, and suggested that the conditions there were worse than Honduras. Baltimore is largely populated with African Americans.
