Ilhan Omar has hit back at President Donald Trump and claimed to love the US “way more than” him. She also accused him of fueling death threats against her and other female politicians. Speaking with Joshua Johnson of ‘The Week’ on MSNBC, the Democrat, who represents Minnesota in the House of Representatives, said: “It’s really also just astonishing to see the way in which he characterizes what love for this country is. I would certainly reckon not only Somalis, but myself, the governor of Michigan and our Speaker all love this country way more than the president." She also stated that the president is responsible for "destroying the presidency" and also ruining "everything this country stands for".

On Twitter also, the 38-year-old slammed Trump as she tweeted, “Donald Trump’s repeated unhinged, conspiratorial attacks on me and other prominent female politicians are not just sexist. They are leading to frequent threats against our lives. It has to stop.” Her other tweet read: “He is unraveling. What you are witnessing is the weakest expression of strength. It’s similar to the final acts of fallen dictators. We will outlast him because we're stronger.”

But Omar received a lot of backlash for her comments on Twitter as one said, "I really would like to find out who does your tweeting for you. Just like I would like to know IF someone else does his. I know Ilhan doesn’t do hers, she’s too busy riding on the Sanders Socialist bus. Well that and spending the money she gives to hubby so it’s kinda legal." Another one tweeted: "You are one of many reasons EVERY @realDonaldTrump supporter is going to vote in this election." "Playing victim card and women card is always normal to gain sympathy during elections. She forgets how much she was spreading hate against President for past 3-4 yrs almost everyday," added the third user.

Omar’s comments came after the president said she “hates our country”. Rallying in Muskegon, Michigan, Saturday, October 17, the 74-year-old accused her of being the “hater” of America. Earlier, on Friday, October 16, Trump said, “she comes from a place that doesn’t even have a government and then she comes here, she tells us how to run our country, and she hates our country." He added: “If you look at the House with Pelosi, it’s like they hate Israel, and they believe in Omar who came in here and married her brother or something, and came in illegally."

Born in Somalia, Omar came to the US as a child and has been a citizen of the country for the last 20 years. Her office has repeatedly declined "disgusting lies" that she and her former husband Ahmed Nur Said Elmi were actually sister and brother, and she exchanged vows with him to get into America easily. Last week, Omar called Trump “incompetent”. On October 11, when news anchor Jonathan Capehart said, “As a result of that rally in late September, September 30... we now know that 19 people have come down with the coronavirus since that rally. Are you satisfied with the information that’s coming out of the White House, particularly from the president’s doctor, about the president’s health?”

She replied: “No. We still don’t have a clear answer to, you know, when he actually tested positive for the coronavirus. We don’t know if there were indications of him being possibly positive when he went to Minnesota and other states as he held his cult rallies. We at the moment don’t know if there has been a negative test for this president as he prepares to reassume his cult rallies that have now become super-spreaders. I mean, you know, that Saturday at the Rose Garden... that event wasn’t just outside, it was also indoors. It speaks to the level of incompetency, negligence, and, you know, just the danger that he has created as he’s damaged what it means to trust, you know, the information that is supposed to come from the White House.”
