Later on, Alicent wasted no time in promoting Aegon II as the rightful successor to the throne leading to a bitter conflict over the succession.
Alicent, along with the Lord Commander of the Royal Guard, Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel), Rhaenyra's former lover, successfully crowned Aegon II as king before the people.
Rhaenyra also proclaimed herself queen among her supporters. This led to confrontation between the two factions. The fight ended up with the killing of Rhaenyra's son, Lucerys (Elliot Grihault), at the hands of Alicent's second son, Aemond (Ewan Mitchell).
