Contains spoilers for 'House of the Dragon' Season 2
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Season 2 of HBO's fantasy drama series, 'House of the Dragon', has arrived, and fans are ecstatic, with many wondering what will future holds for these characters.
Based on George R R Martin's novel 'Fire & Blood', the popular show transports viewers to the murky realms of Westeros, where the political landscape is in upheaval.
The tragic season finale of the first season left fans reeling, with the death of Lucerys Velaryon (Elliot Grihault), who is devoured whole by Vhagar, marking one of the show's most tragic deaths.
However, with Lucerys gone, the question remains: who would Rhaena Targaryen (Phoebe Campbell), who was supposed to marry Lucerys and unite the two great families for another generation, marry?
George R R Martin's novel 'Fire & Blood' outlines Rhaena Targaryen's future
Although the drama is now focused on the ongoing political upheaval, there is no clear trajectory for predicting who Rhaena will end up with.
However, the show is based on the renowned book by George R R Martin and it is fair to presume that on the basis of its source material, Rhaena ultimately marries Corwyn Corbray from the Corbray's house after the civil war 'Dance of the Dragons'.
Rhaena meets Corwyn while living happily in the Eyrie, and their shared experiences spark love. Their marriage is also politically sound because the Corbrays are a respected family, making them an excellent match.
Corwyn is introduced as a courageous warrior in the novel, wielding a Valyrian steel blade, while his brother has a high position.
Does Rhaena Targaryen remarry following the death of Corwyn Corbray?
Rhaena's life, as described in Martin's book, was marred by considerable personal loss, as Rhaena's husband Corwyn, a member of the regents' council, was sent to the Vale to settle a succession issue involving House Arryn.
Corwyn tragically died during the tumult, marking an end to Rhaena's second major relationship in her life.
Following this, Martin's narrative provides little insight into Rhaena's life.
However, she did ultimately marry again. Rhaena married Garmund Hightower, a relative of Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifan). Garmund was Otto Hightower's relative and the brother of Hobert Hightower (Steffan Rhodri).
Rhaena married into another powerful and prominent family in Westeros, allowing her to continue her complicated and exciting existence among the realm's political machinations.
