Contains spoilers and speculation for 'House of the Dragon'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'House of the Dragon' Season 2, Episode 2 premiered on HBO on Sunday, June 23, 2024.
The exciting episode saw characters dealing with the aftermath of Prince Jaehaerys's death and the impending war between the Greens and the Blacks.
'House of the Dragon' Season 2, Episode 2 saw tensions rise between Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D'Arcy) and Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) in the aftermath of Blood and Cheese.
In the Green Council, we witnessed Aegon II Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney) dismiss Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans) from the position of Hand of the King and appoint Ser Criston Cole (Fabien Frankel).
Amid everything that was going on, some carefully placed Easter eggs foreshadowed important events that would unfold in future seasons.
Here is a look at some of those moments.
Hugh the Hammer
Hugh the Hammer (Kieran Bew) is a character from the book 'Fire and Blood,' who becomes a dragon rider for Rhaenyra Targaryen. He will become a knight and have ambitions of being a King.
In 'House of the Dragon,' Hugh the Hammer's character begins as one of the common folk grappling with the economic repercussions of war. However, this interpretation differs from the book "Fire and Blood," where he does not have a family.
Rhaenys Targaryen and Corlys Velaryon's final moments
The relationship between Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) and Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint) has quietly developed, and in Episode 2, we see them spend some quality time together.
The time they spend together, particularly Rhaenys talking about herself and her dragon Meleys, marks some of their final moments together, as Rhaenys dies in the Battle of Rook's Rest, greatly angering Lord Corlys Velaryon.
Addam of Hull and Seasmoke
In Episode 2, we are introduced to Addam of Hull (Clinton Liberty) for the first time. In a scene by the beach, he looks up to see the dragon Seasmoke flying above.
Seasmoke is a majestic dragon that was previously ridden by Laenor Velaryon (John Macmillan). Later in the series, we will witness Addam of Hull bonding with Seasmoke, whom he eventually rides.
Addam of Hull becomes a pivotal figure in the Dance of the Dragons, and his parentage is subtly teased in the second episode when he mentions that Corlys Velaryon owes him.
Ser Otto mentions Daeron Targaryen
Fans' wishes were granted in the second episode when Daeron Targaryen was mentioned by Ser Otto Hightower. Daeron is Alicent Hightower's (Olivia Cooke) fourth child who is in Oldtown with the Hightowers.
Otto describes Daeron as a man who takes to instructions better than Aegon does.
Helaena's connection with the smallfolk
Helaena Targaryen ( Phia Saban) has become an important character in the first two episodes of Season 2. Later in the season, Helaena Targaryen becomes endeared to the smallfolk, who sympathize with her.
In the Dance of the Dragons, King's Landing is eventually taken over by Rhaenyra Targaryen. Helaena eventually takes her own life, which triggers a revolt in King's Landing.
