'Game of Thrones' was more than just the storyline or the actors whose careers saw a meteoric rise. Some of the locations where the HBO behemoth fantasy series was filmed became tourist hotspots and now 'House of the Dragon' is all set to follow the same pattern. Thingvellir National Park and some of the locations in Iceland were in the spotlight after 'GoT' filmed part of the sequences in the regions.

The ten-episode prequel slated to release in August has some picturesque locations that will surely become travel destinations. While we can count out the Warner Bros studios at Watford, England, there are still six other major locations where 'House of the Dragon' was filmed. Predominantly shot in the United Kingdom, Cornwall is listed as one of the places. Not alien to film shoots, the place has some of the more extravagant beaches in the world and per a GQ report, is a location that highlights the 'windswept, rocky areas around King’s Landing and Dragonstone.'

Why was 'House of the Dragon' George RR Martin's first apt choice for 'Game of Thrones' prequel?

Cáceres, Spain is the other location that even had some parts of 'GoT' filmed. The location had already appeared in season 7 of the cult show and will be one of the places where 'House of the Dragon' was filmed. The city is about an hour from Spain and Portugal's border and has a medieval outlook and vibe with turrets, cobbled lanes, and turrets making it a perfect spot for shooting period dramas.

The trailer does give some locations away to viewers with a keen eye for detail. Surrey and Peak District were added as some of the locations as well. The Castle of Monsanto in Portugal will surely see some eyeballs as well with the prequel having shot part of the scenes in the country. The official synopsis reads, Set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series tells the story of a turbulent period for House Targaryen, one that set sibling against sibling and dragon against dragon. The point of contention: who should rule on the Iron Throne, of course."

'House of the Dragon' premieres August 21 on HBO and will also be available for streaming on HBO Max.
