Up for an intense psychological drama? Get ready to catch a new film 'Horse Girl' on Netflix. Directed and produced by Jeff Baena, it was developed from a screenplay by Baena and Alison Brie.

Brie stars in the lead role of Sarah and the 104-minute movie explores the impact of the debutant screenwriter's maternal grandmother’s paranoid schizophrenia.

Release date

After its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival on January 27, 2020, the movie is scheduled for a February 7 release on Netflix.

Plot

The plot of the movie reads: "A sweet misfit with a fondness for crafts, horses and supernatural crime shows, finds her increasingly lucid dreams trickling into her waking life."

Alison Brie plays Sarah in the movie. The actress who voices Diane Nguyen on the animated comedy series 'BoJack Horseman', is known for her role as Ruth Wilder in 'GLOW'. She was also nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for her performance in the series.

Debby Ryan has been cast as Nikki in the movie. Discovered in a nationwide search by Disney Channel, the actress was a part of 'The Suite Life on Deck', ' What If...' and 'Jessie'.

The other cast members include John Reynolds as Darren, Molly Shannon as Joan, John Ortiz as Ron, Jay Duplass as Ethan and Paul Reiser as Gary.

Director/Writer

Directed by Jeff Baena and written in collaboration with Alison Brie, the movie was first telecast for viewers at the Sundance Film Festival. Produced by Duplass Brothers Productions, it has Alana Carithers, Baena and Brie as producers.
