Hillary Clinton calls Trump’s presidency a TV show about 'to be canceled': 'Same story over and over again'

'His big advantage of having been a so-called reality TV star before he ran has pretty much run its course'

On Tuesday night, September 29, Hillary Clinton appeared on MSNBC for a pre-debate interview, where she compared Donald Trump’s career as a president of the US to a reality television series. Clinton took a jibe at Trump before the Republican leader and Joe Biden came face to face for the first presidential debate 2020.

Four years ago, Trump and Clinton were running against each other for the White House office, and despite getting 48 percent of the popular vote in comparison to Trump's 45.9 percent, Clinton lost. Trump got 306 delegates in the Electoral College while Clinton only received 232 delegates and since presidential candidates require 270 delegates to win, Trump became the president.

"I think that his big advantage of having been a so-called reality TV star and been in people's living rooms on their TVs for a number of years before he ran has pretty much run its course. I think his series is about to be canceled because it's just the same story over and over again — lying with impunity, attacking when you have nothing to say, unable to give an answer that is frankly coherent,” Clinton said on September 29.

She added: “You know, you can only lie so many times, you can only try to avoid responsibilities so many times when, finally, people are going to be looking at each other and saying, 'You know we've seen this before. And we're not buying it this time'." Earlier during the 2020 Democratic National Convention in August, Clinton warned against a lack of enthusiasm among voters. She said, “For four years, people have said to me, 'I didn't realize how dangerous [Trump] was!' 'I wish I could go back and do it over!' Or worst—'I should have voted!' Well, this can't be another 'woulda, coulda, shoulda' election."

This comes after an old video resurfaced recently in which Clinton was seen alleging that Trump had paid no income tax in years. The former secretary of state’s allegations against Trump came during the 2016 presidential elections debate when moderator Lester Holt asked why he was the first candidate in decades not to release his tax returns. In the four-year-old video, Clinton said: “He doesn’t want the American people... to know that he’s paid nothing in federal taxes because the only years that anybody’s ever seen were a couple of years when he had to turn them over to state authorities when he was trying to get a casino license, and they showed he didn’t pay any federal income tax." To which Trump responded at the time, “That makes me smart."

The old video was reportedly shared by Maya Harris, the sister of Kamala Harris, the running mate of Democratic nominee Joe Biden. The clip resurfaced hours after the president's’ tax returns were published. Trump is currently amidst an audit with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), which reportedly started nine years ago after he claimed and received a $72.9 million tax refund. But now, the IRS is investigating the legitimacy of the refund.
