EVANSVILLE, INDIANA: A 37-year-old woman is set to face decades behind bars after she was convicted on rape and murder charges. Heidi Kathleen Carter invited a woman who she met on an LGBTQ dating app and the woman's boyfriend, Tim Ivy, 50, over to her home in Evansville on October 19, 2021.

The trio then engaged in an assenting sexual act but things turned round when Carter’s boyfriend, Carrey Hammond, arrived at the house. Hammond reportedly snapped and turned violent and attacked Ivy. According to the authorities, Hammond tied up the couple with duct tape, beat and strangled Ivy to death, and sexually assaulted the woman before being fatally shot by responding law enforcement officers. During the incident, Carter fuelled Hammond's rage as she kept on verbally encouraging Hammond during the attack, court records say.

What happened on that particular day?

As per the court documents, after the woman and Ivy arrived at Carter's home, the three drank alcohol and took drugs before they engaged in a threesome. During their sexual activity, Hammond walked in only to become furious. The surviving female victim told the officers that Hammond grabbed a baseball bat and began beating Ivy. “The next thing I know there’s a man bursting through the door with a baseball bat attacking us,” the surviving victim testified on Monday, February 13, reported Evansville Courier & Press.

Hammond restrained the couple with duct tape, “beating and abusing them for hours,” according to the affidavit. The woman testified that Hammond continued to hold her at gunpoint and raped her. She reportedly described Carter as excited and angry during the sexual assault, saying she told Hammond to “do anything he wants” to her. Carter was found guilty of six felonies, including aiding, inducing, or causing murder. She was also found guilty of two counts of aiding, inducing, or causing rape and three counts of criminal confinement.

Carter then left home for a couple of hours after the brutal assault. However, at that time, Hammond strangled Ivy to death using a belt because he saw Ivy trying to escape his restraints. The killer allegedly wrapped Ivy’s body in blankets, and Carter offered to help move his body to a different room.

How did they get caught?

The deranged couple reportedly hired a housekeeper to come in and clean the house after the slaying. They instructed her to clean the bedrooms while they ordered pizzas. The housekeeper allegedly heard a female crying for help while cleaning. When the housekeeper “went to sit down on what she thought was a pile of pillows and blankets” she noticed there was a body, FOX News reported. Hammond and Carter failed to stop her from fleeing but she eventually escaped and sought help.

Police said Hammond left home aggressively and held an object shaped like a handgun when they arrived. Officers opened fire, killing him. Carter professed that she only pretended to help Hammond and held the gun on the victims to appease him.
