From Vermont to Minneapolis: Heartwarming GoFundMe report names most charitable states and cities of 2022
The most charitable states and cities for the year are listed in GoFundMe's annual donations report for 2022, which also includes several other statistics. The states with the highest per-capita donations are Vermont, Delaware, Maine, New Hampshire, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Georgia, South Carolina, Montana, and Virginia, according to the crowdfunding site.
The website claims that 28 million people gave a combined $25 billion in 2022 to nonprofits and charities, with one donation being made every second. In its report, the company stated, "Our community helped provide the essentials during record-high inflation, advanced educational dreams, and supported people whose lives were uprooted by natural disasters, war, and loss." GoFundMe also kept track of the cities with the biggest hearts. In 2022, Marietta, Georgia, Spring, Texas, Silver Spring, Maryland, Sarasota, Florida, Bradenton, Olympia, Washington, Alpharetta, Georgia, Miami, Florida, Fort Myers, Florida, and Minneapolis were the most charitable cities.

Additionally, the company provided some unique information on the year's most important contributions. 2022 saw an increase of 110% in donations for baby formula, a 60% increase in gasoline fundraisers, and a 10% increase in grocery fundraisers.
This year also saw $2.3 million raised for girl scout and eagle scout projects, $9 million raised for various places of worship, $150,000 raised for veterans, $50 million donated to help cats and dogs, $108 million to rebuild homes after natural disasters, and $250 million raised for Ukrainian relief.
The GoFundMe page which was set up to aid the families of the victims of the elementary school massacre in Uvalde, Texas, received the most donations on May 26 than any other day of the year, making it the most charitable day of 2022.
The #GivingTuesday charitable holiday, which falls on the Tuesday following Thanksgiving, set a record by raising $3.1 billion for good causes in only 24 hours in the US. Giving to charities increased this year despite raging inflation and the higher cost of living many Americans experienced.
Asha Curran, CEO of #GivingTuesday, stated, "That's really what we saw. That whatever it is that people are experiencing, they were as generous as they had the capacity to be," as reported by the New York Post. Additionally, a report has monitored donation information for the United Kingdom, Canada, the Republic of Ireland, and Australia.
