HBO reveals writer and director for 'faithful' Harry Potter series produced by JK Rowling
Los Angeles, California (Release): HBO and Warner Bros. Television have announced that Francesca Gardiner -- executive producer on 'Succession' and 'Killing Eve' -- will be the writer and showrunner for the platform's upcoming Harry Potter series. Director Mark Mylod ('Succession', 'Game of Thrones', 'Shameless' and 'The Last of Us') will helm multiple episodes of the upcoming show.
More interestingly, HBO has claimed that the upcoming Harry Potter series will be a "faithful adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter book series by author and executive producer JK Rowling". HBO has also clarified that while the series will feature "new adventures", "the original, classic and cherished films will remain at the core of the franchise".
With Rowling also exective producing, it seems likely that HBO hopes to recapture the original magic of the hugely popular books and movies and move away from the controversy that has surrounded Rowling and the very public spats she has had with cast-members of the films.
