Halsey, who welcomed her son Ender in July 2021 with partner Alev Aydin, recently spoke about how abortion saved their life revealing that she had three miscarriages before their 24th birthday. In an open letter in Vogue, the ‘Manic’ hitmaker also went on to share their stand on the US Supreme Court overturning the historic Roe v Wade ruling.

The latest comes after Halsey protested against the ruling during their Arizona concert on June 26. The 27-year-old singer, who goes by pronouns she/they, told the crowd that their heart breaks seeing people who “deserve the right to healthcare” and the “right to choose.” "Here in Arizona, you guys got to promise me that you're gonna do that work so that the person to the left of you and the right of you has that right for the rest of their lives," they said and gave a heads up, "If you don't like it, you can go home right now, I don't care." Halsey also initiated chants of "my body, my choice" during the concert.

How abortion saved Halsey’s life

Protesting the Roe v Wade ruling, Halsey wrote in the open letter, “Many people have asked me if, since carrying a child to term after years of struggling to do so, I have reconsidered my stance on abortion.”  The ‘Without Me’ hitmaker added, “The answer is firmly no. In fact, I have never felt more strongly about it.”

The 27-year-old crooner further shared, “My abortion saved my life and gave way for my son to have his. Every person deserves the right to choose when, if, and how they have this dangerous and life-altering experience. I will hold my son in one arm, and fight with all my might with the other.”

‘I miscarried three times before my 24th birthday’

Halsey also detailed their experience with miscarriages in the letter. “I miscarried three times before my 24th birthday”, said the singer adding, “It seemed a cruel irony that I could get pregnant with ease but struggled to maintain a pregnancy.” She further shared, “One of my miscarriages required ‘aftercare,’ a gentle way of saying that I would need an abortion, because my body could not terminate the pregnancy completely on its own and I would risk going into sepsis without medical intervention.”

Halsey recalled, “During this procedure, I cried. I was afraid for myself and I was helpless. I was desperate to end the pregnancy that was threatening my life.” She stated, “I was afraid for myself and I was helpless. I was prepared for the worst. I gave detailed instructions regarding the donation of my organs should I die or be declared brain-dead, meaning if my heart beat on but my brain wasn’t functioning, the state would have permission to cut into my warm and still flush flesh and take my organs to save other lives.”
