After what seemed an eternity, the live-action series 'Halo' is finally set to hit the screens. Creators Kyle Killen and Steven Kane bring the hugely successful game as a story that follows a 26th-century battle between the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) and the Covenant, a theocratic-military alliance of several advanced alien species.

With Steven Spielberg as one of the Executive producers, 'Halo' was slated to go on floors as early as 2015, but encountered issues with production and development. However, it took off in 2019 and landed on Paramount+ as the platform. Ahead of its premiere, the show has renewed for a second season and has some big names in Pablo Schreiber, Natascha McElhone, and Shabana Azmi in key roles. Ahead of the series premiere, we look at who plays whom and some things we didn't know about Schreiber.

Best known as Nick Sobotka on 'The Wire', Pablo Schreiber has seen quite the success in TV over the years. The Canadian actor carved a solid identity for himself as William Lewis on 'Law & Order: Special Victims Unit', 'Mad Sweeney on 'American Gods', and as George "Pornstache" Mendez on 'Orange Is the New Black'. Schreiber plays the titular character, Master Chief in the 'Halo', A genetically-engineered supersoldier also known as Spartan-117.

Pablo was named after Chilean poet Pablo Neruda. His father, Carroll Schreiber was an actor and also had a strong inclination towards literature. His half-brother Liev Schreiber is an actor as well starring in several hit films and TV shows. The 43-year-old also expressed interest in playing the Marvel character Wolverine, last played by Hugh Jackman.

Natascha McElhone as Dr Catherine Elizabeth Halsey

Fans will remember Natascha McElhone as First Lady Alex Kirkman in ABC's political thriller 'Designated Survivor'. The actress garnered recognition for her portrayal of Karen van der Beek, the long-time partner of Hank Moody, in Showtime's 'Californication'. She plays Dr Catherine Elizabeth Halsey in 'Halo', a scientist for the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) and creator of the Spartan-II Project. Her success in movies came from 'The Truman Show' alongside Jim Carrey. She also starred with Brad Pitt in 'The Devil's Own', Robert De Niro in 'Roni', and George Clooney in 'Solaris'.

Charlie Murphy as Makee

Irish actress Charlie Murphy is best known for her role as Siobhán Delaney in the RTÉ drama series 'Love/Hate', a portrayal that saw her win Best Actress at the 2013 Irish Film and Television Award. The audience will also know her as Jesse Eden from BBC's hit drama, 'Peaky Blinders'. Murphy plays Makee in the series and is described as 'a human member of Covenant who opposes her own race'.

Other cast

Yerin Ha as Kwan Ha Boo, Shabana Azmi as Admiral Margaret Parangosky, Bokeem Woodbine as Soren-066, Olive Gray as Miranda Keyes, Kate Kennedy as Kai-125, Natasha Culzac as Riz-028, Bentley Kalu as Vannak-134, and 
Danny Sapani as Captain Jacob Keyes round up the rest of the cast. The voice cast includes Jen Taylor as Cortana, an AI construct.
