'Grey's Anatomy' Season 17 Episode 6 Spoilers: Do Meredith and DeLuca have a future together? Here's the lowdown
There wasn't enough wine in the world to stop fans from grieving over Derek Shepherd's (Patrick Dempsey) death back in Season 11. McDreamy, who had been on the show since its inception, died after sustaining injuries in a heart-stopping car crash. What's even more callous is that he died in a pokey clinic that wasn't trained to treat trauma patients.
One of the world's best neuro-surgeons, who survived gunshots and a plane crash, couldn't survive bad decisions by doctors at a clinic. Sigh. Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) took a long time to piece herself together. Later, she tried moving on with Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson) with no success, and then finally landed up with Andrew DeLuca. Their relationship showed promise, as he was the first person she confessed her love to, after Derek.
DeLuca was head over heels for her, no doubt and at times was more of a yes man to her. He even went to jail for her. Yet, their relationship suffered glitches back in Season 16, because DeLuca felt that Meredith didn't quite treat him as her equal, and didn't respect him the way she respected Derek. Their relationship takes a turn for the worse after DeLuca's illness is diagnosed and the future of this relationship seemed uncertain.
Before we can get to understanding what the future holds for them, we got carried away with Derek's return in Meredith's dreams. Meredith is currently dying of Covid-19, and it's only in her sleep that she can see Derek. In the promo for the upcoming episode, Meredith seems to be waking up from her long sleep, which means we won't get to see Derek anymore. And now, what does that mean for her relationship with DeLuca, who has been waiting for her to recover?
Do the two have a future at all? Let's not forget that Cormac Hayes (Richard Flood) is in the mix too and could also be her potential love interest. Most fans assumed that Meredith would die at the end of Season 17 and would reunite with Derek in heaven. Fail.
