'Grey's Anatomy' Season 16: Will Richard Webber and Alex Karev face action for supporting Meredith Grey's insurance fraud?

Alex seems determined to clear Meredith's name as he rallied several patients to speak for her.
PUBLISHED NOV 14, 2019

Stakes are high and emotions are all over the place. The next episode of 'Grey's Anatomy' promises to be a grueling one for Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo) and the viewers as well. Meredith stands trial in court as she committed insurance fraud at the end of season 15 to save a patient. Apart from getting her fired from the hospital by an irate Miranda Bailey (Chandra Bailey), she also had to do community service and then spend some time in jail. Will Meredith get to keep her medical license? And if she does, will she return to Grey-Sloane?

Yet, it's not just her career that seems to be at stake. Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr) and Alex Karev (Justin Chambers) had known about the fraud and were fired from the hospital by Bailey as well. As a result, they're now working in Pac North, which is a struggling hospital. The two doctors don't seem to be making their way back anytime soon. In the promo for the next episode, Bailey snaps at Richard, saying, 'You lied.'

It's quite possible that Richard and Alex will have to face consequences for supporting Meredith. For starters, Richard has always supported Meredith's rash and impulsive decisions. However, Alex seems determined to clear Meredith's name, as he rallied several patients to speak for her. But considering creator Shonda Rhimes's love for the unpredictable and her sudden twists, another possibility is that Meredith might just get to keep her medical license, while Alex and Richard could lose theirs. This wouldn't be the first time the two would've faced such threats, Alex has even been in jail for beating up Andrew DeLuca in the earlier seasons. Besides, most of the doctors in Grey-Sloane memorial have all committed some sort of felony or the other, even if it's for a good and noble cause.

'Grey's Anatomy' airs on ABC on November 14.
