LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Ricky Gervais bagged a Golden Globe Award at a star-studded ceremony on January 7, 2024, at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

The star won the best performance in stand-up comedy in the Netflix special 'Armageddon.'

Gervais won over Chris Rock who was nominated for his 'Selective Outrage' special, Trevor Noah's 'Where Was I', Amy Schumer's 'Emergency Contact', Sarah Silverman's ' Someone You Love', and Wanda Sykes 'I'm an Entertainer.'

It seems like Gervais' big win at the 81st Golden Globe Awards didn't sit well with social media users as they argued that Wanda Sykes was more deserving than him.

A furious X user said, "The women in the new comedy category got robbed.. should have been Wanda Sykes!"

Another user lamented, "Wanda Sykes ROBBED."

A person ranted, "For them to not give the Golden Globe to Wanda Sykes was BS but to give it to that nightmare fuel Ricky Gervais? He must have dirt on someone cause that makes NO damn sense."

A user went on to say, "You telling me that man special was better than Wanda Sykes??....aite."

Another user said, "True but it should’ve been wanda sykes."

Did Ricky Gervais attend the 'Golden Globes' 2024?

Ricky Gervais who won the Golden Globe award for Best Performance in Stand-Up Comedy on Television was not present at the Golden Globes 2024.

Jim Gaffigan accepted the award on behalf of Gervais.

Gaffigan said, “It’s the first time that comedians are going to be acknowledged at a major award show. The Golden Globes, for 80 years, good-looking people threw a party and then you guys finally decided to invite the talented people."

He added, "Stand-up comedy is a brutal business. And thanks to Netflix, people get overpaid for it.”
