Golden Globes 2020: Taron Egerton snubs Elton John and Twitter is shocked — 'He just wanted a hug!'
At the 77th annual Golden Globe Awards, the trophy for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Musical or Comedy went to Taron Egerton, who portrayed Elton John in last year’s biopic 'Rocketman'.
The actor, who beat Leonardo DiCaprio ('Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood'), Eddie Murphy ('I Am Dolemite'), Daniel Craig ('Knives Out') and Roman Griffin Davis ('Jojo Rabbit'), rushed to the stage to accept the award after hugging a few well wishers around him. Viewers were happy to see him win. "@TaronEgerton congratulations on your win at the #GoldenGlobes2020. Well deserved for your brilliant acting in #Rocketman."
However, he did make a big miss during his acceptance. Apparently, as he was about to walk to the stage, Elton John. who was just beside him, approached him for a hug but Egerton snubbed him and walked right past him. Eagle-eyed viewers took note of the incident and were simply shocked.
"Taron Egerton won for playing Elton John and then totally snubbed him at the table. He just wanted a hug! #GoldenGlobes," one viewer wrote and another said, "Holy shit did Taron Egerton just snub Elton John on his way to accept an award for a film ABOUT Elton John!? #GoldenGlobes."
One fan even labeled it as the "biggest snub" of Golden Globes 2020. "The hug Elton John didn’t get from Taron Egerton is the BIGGEST SNUB OF THE GOLDEN GLOBES!" the tweet read and another said, "Looked like #TaronEgerton snubbed #EltonJohn when he was hugging people at his table."
Many blamed Taron's jitters. "Elton John getting snubbed from a hug as they call out Taron Egerton. Taron has to be nervous. #GoldenGlobes," one fan defended him and another said, "Taron Egerton just accidentally snubbed Elton John of a hug and Elton was not pleased and I am dying." Meanwhile, many simply laughed it away.
