Golden Globes 2020: Sam Mendes's '1917' wins Best Film, defeating 'The Irishman' and 'Joker'

At the 77th Golden Globe Awards, Sam Mendes's '1917' film was awarded as the Best Film.

The grand night for one of the most prestigious award ceremonies came to an end, but not without a bang. At the 77th Golden Globe Awards, Sam Mendes's '1917' was awarded the Best Film gong. The film had tough competition from Martin Scorsese's 'The Irishman' and Todd Phillips' 'Joker' but nevertheless emerged victorious. While of later the Globes haven't been a bellwether for the Academy Awards, this still adds some spice to the Oscars race.

'Joker'
'Marriage Story'
'The Two Popes'

Directed by Sam Mendes, '1917' relates the story of two British soldiers during World War I in 1917, who were given a mission to deliver a message. The film starred Colin Firth, Andrew Scott, George MacKay and Benedict Cumberbatch. 

At the Golden Globes 2020, there were several expected winners. Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor for 'Joker',  Awkwafina won Best Actress for 'The Farewell', Brad Pitt won Best Supporting Actor for 'Once Upon A Time In Hollywood', Russell Crowe won Best Actor In Limited Series or TV Movie for 'The Loudest Voice', and Phoebe Waller-Bridge won Best Actress for Comedy for 'Fleabag', which has received rave reviews from critics and audience alike.

The Golden Globes 2020 has come to an end on NBC, and now the next coveted and much-awaited award show is the Academy Awards.
