What is the plot of 'Gilded Newport Mysteries: Murder at the Breakers'?

Emma Vanderbilt-Cross is more than just a journalist hacking away at the society pages for 'The Newport Observer' (this was a real, if short-lived, newspaper towards the end of the 19th century). She's connected to the famed Vandebilt family, just like Anderson Cooper (no sniggering at the back) and can spot an influential vibe from a mile away. But in July 1985, as the who's who of New York society descends on Newport for the summer, death is afoot, and when Emma's brother is the prime suspect for a murder at the Vanderbilt home, the young scribe has no choice but to investigte.

Yes it's the younger version of Tully from the hit TV series 'Firefly Lane'. Ali may have become a household name playing Tully Hart, but she is so much more than one show. Ali got her big break, albeit for one episode, on 'Smallville' in 2010, and was then seen on hit shows like 'Supernatural', 'Once Upon a Time', and 'Fringe'. She also starred in 2013's excellent short 'The Goodbye Girl' before playing Abigail in the 'Gourmet Detective' franchise (she starred in five movies). A well-recieved stint on 'When Calls the Heart' cemented her status as a fan favorite. Fans can see her next in the movie 'Grizzly Night' opposite Charles Esten and Oded Fehr.

Danny Griffin

British actor Danny got his screen break when he played Hunter Phillips in the BBC series 'So Awkward' in 2019. The same year he played Aslan in Guy Ritchie's 'The Gentlemen' opposite Matthew McConaughey, Charlie Hunnam and a superb Hugh Grant. After a short stint on Netflix's 'Get Even', Danny played Sky Silva on 'Fate: The Winx Saga' on the same platform, and while we won't hold that against him fans can catch him next in 'Drugstore June' alongside an all-star cast of Haley Joel Osment (yup it's David from 'A.I.'), Jackie Sandler, Miranda Cosgrove, James Remar, Beverly D'Angelo, Bill Burr and Bhad Bhabie (Ok so a mostly 'star' cast).

Is 'Gilded Newport Mysteries: Murder at the Breakers' worth watching?

This movie is tailor-made for fans of period dramas and of course the 'Gilded Newport Mystery' books by Alyssa Maxwell (the series has a huge following). If you spend your weeks wondering what it would be like to live in a Julian Fellowes dremscape straight out of 'Downton Abbey' or 'The Gilded Age' then you can do a whole lot worse than spend a couple of hours watching this. Hopefully there will enough traction to expand it into a full-blown franchise, and writer Keri Ferencz knows a thing or two about crafting popular long-running shows, just ask fans of the 'Frankie Drake Mysteries'.
