George R.R. Martin has good news and bad news for GOT fans
George R.R Martin, the creator of 'The Game of Thrones' which is now an HBO TV series, revealed on his website on Wednesday that the much awaited sixth book of the 'A Song of Fire and Ice' series will not be released in 2018.
According to an E!News report, he said, "No, winter is not coming...not in 2018, at least. You're going to have to keep waiting for THE WINDS OF WINTER."
Martin has been giving updates for 'The Winds of Winter' (the next book to 'A song of Fire and Ice') for many years now, saying that the book is incomplete. However, he has periodically shared excerpts of whatever he has completed in the book.
The first five seasons of the HBO series followed the books but the sixth season was the first to outpace the book. The eighth season which is the final one will premiere in 2019.
Although he did give his fans some compensation for making them wait, he announced that he will be releasing a prequel to the 'A Song of Fire and Ice' series on November 20. The prequel is called 'Fire and Blood'.
This story takes place three hundred years before the happenings of 'A Song of Fire and Ice'. The book will be the first of the two volumes which gives a history of the Targaryens of the fictional continent of Westeros. It tells us about how the seven kingdoms unite under the Targaryen dynasty and the civiln war that alsmost caused the dynaty's destruction.
This book will be the first to step into the world of the Targaryens and and weave a full tapestry of the dynasty's history, starting from Aegon I (the Conqueror) to the regency of Aegon III (the Dragonbane), the Targaryens kings and everyone in their lives.
Martin mentions that although HBO is creating many prequels for 'The Game of Thrones' franchise, he does not know if 'Fire and Blood' will be one of them.
