The Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement, which intensified in the US following the killing of George Floyd, has spread its influence across different countries. Many celebrities across the globe have taken to streets to speak out against the systemic racial discrimination which has been prevalent for years. ‘Star Wars’ star John Boyega, who joined the Black Live Matter demonstration in London, is now making headlines for his powerful speech, which has also led to his other movie ‘Attack the Block’ trend on Twitter.

In his speech, Boyega said, “Black lives have always mattered. We have always been important. We have always meant something. We have always succeeded regardless. And now is the time. I ain’t waiting.” He further adds, “I don’t know if I’m going to have a career after this but, f**k that." Ever since the tragic death of Floyd, Boyega has been actively voicing his opinion on the injustice against the black community through his Twitter handle. Last week on May 27, he tweeted, “I really f**king hate racists”.

Social media users have extended their support to Boyega with hundreds and thousands of comments. Meanwhile, several moved by his fiery speech started to talk about the British science-fiction comedy horror film  ‘Attack the Block’ from 2011, which most skillfully showcases the struggle of the black community. Extending his support to the film and Boyega, a fan wrote on Twitter, “It makes me so fucking happy to see Attack the Block trending. That movie kicks so much a** and is super relevant to the times right now. @JohnBoyega has been one of my favorite actors since that film, im so happy to see him standing for whats right #BlackLivesMatter.”

“‘Attack the Block' is trending and if you somehow haven't seen it, do seek it out. Dark sci-fi with John Boyega in a powerhouse leading role from a poor, black, British perspective, one that forces you to reassess your initial assumptions as to who the heroes are,” added another. Praising Boyega for his role in the film, another Twitter user said, “Man I been f**kin with @JohnBoyega since he played Moses in attack the block, I just knew he was thoroughbred. much respect to the man for speaking up constantly.”
