George Conway appeared to mock first lady Melania Trump after she criticized an impeachment witness for dragging her 13-year-old son Barron into the controversy during Wednesday's hearing.

Stanford Law School professor Pamela Karlan was giving her testimony when she made a joke about Barron, The Hill reports.

"Contrary to what President Trump has said, Article 2 does not give him the power to do anything he wants, and I'll just give you one example that shows you the difference between him and a king, which is the Constitution says there can be no titles of nobility, so while the president can name his son Barron, he can't make him a baron," Karlan told the House Judiciary Committee.

Barron's mother Melania was infuriated by Karlan's comments.

“A minor child deserves privacy and should be kept out of politics," she wrote on Twitter. "Pamela Karlan, you should be ashamed of your very angry and obviously biased public pandering, and using a child to do it.”

However, George Conway, who is the husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, called Karlan's comments a “nothingburger reference" and went on to accuse Melania of "amplifying" the comments.

“So therefore you’re amplifying what was a nothingburger reference a hundred-thousand-fold. Got it,” Conway tweeted.

That said, Karlan was forced to apologize for her remarks after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) pointed out they made her "look mean" during the hearing. Furthermore, White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham also chimed in on Twitter saying the comments were "classless."

"I want to apologize for what I said earlier about the president's son. It was wrong of me to do that," Karlan said. "I wish the president would apologize, obviously, for the things that he's done that's wrong, but I do regret having said that."

Karlan was one of four legal scholars who testified before the Judiciary Committee on Wednesday as part of the ongoing impeachment inquiry against President Trump.
