Blood of My Blood Season 2 Cast: All the Characters Returning for Outlander prequel

Harriet Slater is, of course, returning in Season 2 to reprise her role as Ellen MacKenzie, Jamie Fraser’s mother. She is a strong-willed and smart 18th-century Scottish woman from Clan MacKenzie. In a 2025 interview with Cosmopolitan, Slater and Jamie Roy, who plays Brian Fraser, were asked who would be the “most problematic” character for Ellen and Brian in Season 2. Roy was quick to answer, “The way that we see Uncle Malcolm, how ruthless he can be, I think there might be something to be said about that.” Slater, however, had a different answer ready. She added, “Your character's dad, as well (Lord Lovat).” Roy agreed, saying, “Oh yeah, can't forget him. He's always a problem. And the thing is, we know from Outlander that he doesn't go anywhere. We're gonna have to deal with him for a while.”

Just like Harriet Slater, Jamie Roy is not going anywhere. He is back to play Brian Fraser, the father of the original series’ protagonist, Jamie Fraser. And it looks like Roy has brought a little more muscle with him for Season 2. He was already a dreamboat in Season 1, so we have no idea how we’re supposed to handle him in the upcoming episodes. Roy told M&F, “I wanted the look for the first season to be quite lean because he’s a young boy, essentially, in his 20s. But as the seasons go on, I want to fill Brian out a little bit more, because we know what he looks like as a man, and he’s larger.” Well, we are officially in trouble.

Hermione Corfield will be back as well, reprising her role as Julia Moriston, the mother of Claire Fraser. In a 2025 interview with Collider at San Diego Comic-Con, Corfield teased what fans could expect from the new season, warning, “At the end of Season 1, you will think something's about to happen to Henry and Julia, and then you get to the beginning of Season 2, and that is all turned on its head. And so I'm excited for that reaction. But that's a long way off.” Well, it’s not a long way off anymore. Fans will soon find out exactly what Corfield meant by “turned on its head” when the first episode of Season 2 drops on September 18.

Jeremy Irvine steps back into the role of Henry Beauchamp, the father of the original series’ protagonist, Claire Fraser. In the trailer, we see Henry strapped to a chair at a psychiatric facility while undergoing electroconvulsive therapy. And Irvine doesn’t seem too shocked that his character has landed in yet another problem after slipping through the mystical stones. While chatting with TVLine, the actor playfully said, “Henry just gets tortured by the writers in every episode in this show. I shouldn't have been surprised.”

Tony Curran plays Simon Fraser, 11th Lord Lovat, and he’s confirmed to return in Season 2. The father of Brian Fraser and grandfather of Jamie Fraser, Simon is a cunning and ruthless patriarch. Curran himself has called Simon a “d*stardly individual” and an “uncompromising old fox” who “will do anything.” While speaking to UPI, the actor explained, “He's a complex, rich, dark, bad, bad individual. I guess there has to be a bad guy. Maybe he's just misunderstood. Maybe that's it. He's a lot of fun to play. People hate him or love to hate him. I'm OK with that. I guess, in some ways, I'm doing my job.”

Séamus McLean Ross plays the younger version of Colum MacKenzie, a character portrayed by Gary Lewis in the original series. Fans will be seeing more of him as McLean Ross is officially returning for Season 2 of the prequel. Last year, the actor sat down for an interview with Country & Town House, where he described his character as “a lonely, physically broken outsider desperate for power and the validation that that power brings. Starved of his father’s love, he’s desperate to stamp his authority on his family and his world.”
